The Pressure Is Getting Wesser

Pressure! Pressure!! Pressure!!!

I mean the pressure to succeed is real, and I can’t be the only one facing this pressure. Sometimes it’s from family, school, work, ourselves, friends, social media.

I grew up in a typical Nigerian household, my parents pushing me and my siblings to be the “best” so we could achieve great things. So the pressure to succeed and be the best was ingrained in me right as a kid.

But who really sets these success standards?

Is it by being the best graduating student, being the richest man/woman or by making a Forbes list?

Don’t get me wrong. Money is good, heck, money is great; and so is making a list, but seeing the downturn of Elizabeth Holmes of Theranos, SBF of FTX, or Obinwanne of Invitus, I know there’s more to success than making a list or an headline.

This text from the Bible keeps me grounded and reminds me to focus on what truly matters. Me. My name. My good name.

“A good name is to be chosen rather than great riches, loving favor rather than silver and gold.” (Proverbs 22:1)

Yes I know, when you scroll through social media and it looks like everyone is leaving you behind. I promise you they’re not, so let me paint an analogy to help you zone in on you.

Imagine you’re driving on a highway, there are several other cars on the road (life), all headed to different places. Some cars overtake you (friends), and you overtake others too. Some cars are finer than yours, yours than others. In the end, it doesn’t matter if Miss A is driving a Ferrari, and you’re driving a Range. Or if you’re driving a Porsche, and Mr B is driving a corolla. You’re all headed somewhere (only you know) and it’s only by focusing on your path that you’ll certainly get to your destination.

Life is a marathon not a sprint and I like how this author - Samjura expands on uncovering what it means to run a marathon.

Today’s note is simple:

Focus on your race. You own the finish line. Do you!

This could mean different things to different people. So take time to reflect and understand. Do you. Give your body rest, expose and develop your mind and live a full life according to your terms.

Do you!!!

This is really so timely. I mean I just briefly checked my LinkedIn to respond to a received message, and despite so much grind this year to keep improving, which seems to be unending... I felt almost deflated. Shutting that down, I saw a notification of your mail, and here we are... Thank you 💕💕
