Yesterday, I attended the VIP screening of a documentary produced by my friends at Ingressive For Good (see trailer here). It was inspiring to watch people’s transformation stories, particularly seeing how they broke through against all odds.
From a painter finding a career in tech, to a plant science graduate finding her love for design, two passionate students who led tech initiatives on campus and have now launched their own startup and backed by Y Combinator, and a young woman who found her path in data analytics despite facing challenges such as having to share laptops with her sister while learning; these individuals have all taken unique paths to achieve their career goals.
I found myself reflecting on my own career journey and how it took me several years to reach a point where I felt comfortable with my professional identity. I have transitioned between five different career paths all before turning 30, and despite the obstacles I faced, I persevered, weathered tough times, and continued to work on myself including regularly assessing my skills to determine the best ways to apply them.
When my son was born, I found the courage to exit a toxic work environment and pursue more promising prospects, even if it meant transitioning again. To my surprise, I already possessed the majority of the skills I assumed I lacked, and I am so grateful I found the courage to transition meaningfully into a tech career I love.
Having experienced the confusion and uncertainty that come with career transitions, I'm eager to help others gain clarity and confidence as they navigate their own paths in both tech and non-tech fields. Last year, I began offering career coaching services and have been amazed by the transformation stories of those I've worked with. Sometimes, we're already in the midst of what we've been seeking, but we fail to realize it.
This quarter, I'm thrilled to relaunch my coaching services with a focus on entry-level and mid-level professionals looking to switch industries or jobs. Move from confusion to clarity and take the next step towards your big career move.
Today’s note is a reminder to take that leap of faith - make that call, take that course, build that network, try out that idea. If something scares you, it might be a sign that you should give it a try. Against all odds, take action and move forward💡
WAMIDE!!!! The way I scream your name when I get a notification of your new mail hits differently🙈 Thank you for sharing I4G's trailer. It was wholesome to watch and yeah, congratulations. Congratulations on relaunching your coaching services. I'm rooting for you.
Thank you.
