For the longest time, I’ve always wanted to write. I constantly thought about what to do to become a better writer, and how to avoid writer’s block. I’ve even gone from blogging on Wordpress, to writing on Medium and LinkedIn; but still something was missing.
I’ve struggled a lot with trying to articulate my thoughts, particularly when it comes to writing. A quick Google search and you’ll see tons of advice that centres around reading more and of course writing more. Most people’s advice is to “write more”.
This is great advice to be honest, but I felt pigeon-holed by my own thoughts. I’m your average career girl, and so I felt like I needed to be writing about something related to that, but each time I tried, I just went blank (some struggle). So I gave up trying.
Last week, I was speaking with my best friend about my struggles. I shared how I wanted to write just about anything, particularly what I am learning as I navigate through life, business, friendships, career, faith & motherhood, I said.
And he said,
Do it. Write. Don’t write just because. Write to your future self.
So this is me writing. To me, to my future self, and to you.
Notes to Self is a collection of my thoughts and lessons learned through my everyday life. But it’s not just about me, I’d love to read your thoughts and comments too.
Today’s Lesson: Do It Afraid
So here it begins. Here’s to a new start to writing and to doing it afraid 🥂
I also love writing but at the same time I don't really like reading long novels and all I just like to read short books , short pieces
For example writings here on substack
But I still feel I'm meant to love reading if I want to be a good writer
So I just needed some piece of advice ma'am must I love reading to be a good writer?
